Bouldering is a genre of free climbing. This means climbing the wall about 4m using one’s hands and feet without a rope. By origin, bouldering is climbing big stones outdoors, and today it is very popular as a exercise climbing indoor walls.
Sport climbing including bouldering is one of the events of Tokyo Olympic 2020, and many Japanese player is highly expected to win medals.

In contrast with bouldering that is climbing the wall about 4m, route climbing is climbing rocks and walls higher than 4m (usually about 10m or higher) using a rope to secure the safety.
Route climbing is also originated from climbing natural rocks, and nowadays many people practice it in indoor climbing gyms.
Like bouldering, it’s an event of Tokyo 2020, and there are many hopeful Japanese athletes of route climbing.
